January 2010: South Georgia Surveys undertook a census of albatrosses and King penguins (see News). 

South Georgia Surveys is an independent environmental research organisation working to protect native wildlife and habitats at South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.

• Environmental studies include monitoring seabird populations and mapping the distribution of native wildlife populations, invasive species and their habitats. 
  
• Conservation efforts are focussed on habitat restoration and the removal of invasive species to create wildlife refuges.
  
• Heritage and outreach projects include historic sites surveys, publication of scientific papers and books, public lectures and documentaries.
