Research & Conservation

The research carried out by South Georgia Surveys is designed to contribute to our growing knowledge of South Georgia and its place in the Southern Ocean ecosystem. In particular, we are seeking to understand the causes of the continuing decline of South Georgia's wandering albatrosses, and we support the efforts of scientists and organisations who are trying to halt that decline.

Our efforts in the field of conservation are currently focussed on restoring native habitat on Falklands tussac islands. In a world that is constantly changing as introduced species spread and the effects of climate change deepen, these island refuges will become of increasing importance for native wildlife.
